The Dream
For years, we knew exactly when our "someday" would arrive.
After more than 40 years as an airline pilot flying passengers all over the world, Fred had a retirement date circled on the calendar. And while his career had taken him to incredible destinations, we dreamed about experiencing the world differently—together, at our own pace.
Planning this adventure became part of the fun.
We'd talk about it over dinner, spend hours researching campgrounds and mapping out routes, then settle onto the couch with our favorite YouTube RV creators, soaking up every tip, lesson, and idea we could find.
At first, we thought we were simply planning our first big trip to Alaska.
What we didn't realize was that we were preparing for something much bigger.
We were learning a completely different way to travel.
A slower pace.
One where the journey becomes just as meaningful as the destination.
One where you don't just drive through a town—you stop. You explore. You buy from the local shops to support the local economy. You try that little diner everyone recommends. You discover hidden gems that never would have made it onto your itinerary, and before you know it, the places you never planned to visit become some of your favorite memories.
Looking back now, we weren't just planning a vacation.
We were preparing for a whole new chapter of life.
Then, less than three months after Fred officially retired, we pulled out of our driveway in Florida and pointed our RV north.
That's why Skyways 2 Highways was born.
Meet the Crew
Kristie
Hi! I'm Kristie.
I'm endlessly curious, a planner by nature, and probably the person who spends way too much time researching the "perfect" campground, scenic overlook, hidden local gem, or the best route to get there.
Somewhere along this journey, I discovered something I never expected...
I absolutely love the planning almost as much as the traveling.
What started as using AI to help us map routes, find incredible places, and solve problems on the road quickly turned into a passion for helping others do the same.
I'm constantly learning, testing, refining prompts, and discovering new ways AI can make travel easier, less stressful, and far more personalized.
If something saves us time, money, frustration, or helps us uncover an unforgettable experience, I want to share it.

Fred
Then there's Fred...
The reason Skyways came before Highways.
Retirement didn't mean slowing down—it meant finally taking the controls of a different kind of adventure.
While I'm busy researching our next stop, Fred is usually the one making sure we actually get there.
He's our mechanic, problem solver, campground setup expert, grill master, and the calm voice of reason whenever something unexpected happens.
If something breaks, rattles, leaks, or simply refuses to cooperate, chances are Fred has already figured out how to fix it—or will before the day is over.
One of our favorite parts of sharing this journey is passing those lessons along.
Because if we can save another RVer from making the same mistake we did, that's a win in our book.
Goldie
Then there's Goldie.
Our golden retriever.
Our travel companion.
Our campground quality inspector.
She believes every beach belongs to her, every dog park deserves a full inspection, and she's convinced every campground was built specifically for her nightly zoomies.
She's also taught us one of the biggest lessons of this journey:
Slow down.
Take the longer walk.
Wake up to see a sunrise.
And never underestimate the joy of simply being where your feet—or paws—are.
